recent projects: rebuilding eastern market

Complaints, delays and missed deadlines in the renovation of Eastern Market have sparked concerns about the ability of the company currently managing the building’s restoration to finish the job. To make matters worse, a slow-down in sales combined with delays in moving vendors to a temporary structure last summer has some concerned about the future of market businesses.

blood’s “handbook” still useful despite blogosphere’s evolution

While the title of Blood’s introductory book for bloggers might seem off-puttingly perfunctory, the pages of this roughly 180 page guide are anything but a nuts-and-bolts computer manual. More than just a how-to guide, Blood’s book is also an impassioned proclamation of what it means to be a blogger as well as a survey of the history of the 10 years or so since the blogosphere was born. nonprofits seeing lower response, churn on email lists

A report (PDF) released by M+R and NTEN Thursday stated that email campaign and fundraising message open rates were dropping, while at the same time email subscribers’ overall churn rate had slowed and online donors were making larger gifts. The report data was gathered during a study of online activities of 21 large nonprofit organizations. Read more »

When USA Today’s northern Virginia headquarters first comes into site, it’s not hard to see why the newspaper’s staff have taken to referring to it as “Oz.”  The modern glass structure, which also houses Gannett (USAT’s parent company), rises of the campus’ 30 meticulously landscaped acres with an otherworldly grandiosity that has all the subtlety of a Palm Beach McMansion.
